Good example of "push up hoops!" The metal tab extends below the hoop and that is where the stud is mounted. The result is a look where the hoop rides higher on the lobe then where the piercing is. Kind of a cool fix if the hole is too low. Others just like the look / feel of hoops that are really high up.
