Nice April Fools joke you have uploaded @guvunor . I admit that you got me into thinking that your girlfriend has put big hoops on after all this time, until you posted that image.
The photoshop could be indeed improved, as @hlover pointed out in the image comments, the hoop on the right is placed quite low.
On a serious note, I believe in the phrase "what goes around comes around". Your girlfriend may have changed her mind about hoop earrings, but if she truly liked them while she wore them years ago, I believe that they will sooner or later come back to her jewelry box.
